ThyssenKrupp Elevator SEAME builds a New Factory and R&D Center in Madrid

ThyssenKrupp Elevator Southern Europe, Africa and Middle East, an Operating Unit of ThyssenKrupp Elevator, will invest in a new high-tech elevator factory and R&D centre, as well as a logistics warehouse, international training centre and offices to group some 850 employees in Madrid over the next five years.

This new project was presented today by the President of ThyssenKrupp Elevator Southern Europe, Africa and Middle East (SEAME), Javier del Pozo, at a joint press conference with the President of the Madrid Community, Esperanza Aguirre, the Economic Councilor of the Community, Antonio Beteta, and the Mayor of Mostoles, Esteban Parro, representatives of the institutions developing the Mostoles Tecnológico Park.

“These new installations demonstrate the firm commitment of ThyssenKrupp Elevator SEAME to the Madrid region, where we have been active for close to 25 years” underlined Javier del Pozo. “With this project, we bring together our production capacities, logistics centre, R&D and regional offices, improving our capacity to respond more rapidly to changes in the market in Spain and other countries.”

The plot, of 58,617 square metres, will be developed in three phases. Phase I is the new factory, production facilities, R&D centre and test tower, to be ready in February 2011. Phase II is the logistics warehouse and Phase III includes the offices, international training centre SEED Campus Europe and the product Showroom, both planned to be rolled out by 2014.

The company’s star product, the machine room-less “synergy” elevator for residential purposes, will be built in the Madrid factory and shipped directly from the new logistics centre to clients. Since its launch in 2008, more than 12,500 synergy have been sold in Spain and exported to different countries in Europe, Middle East, Latin America and North Africa.

The new high-tech R&D centre, with 50 professionals dedicated to R&D, engineering and the design of prototypes, will benefit from closeness of the Universidad Juan Carlos I. Collaborations with public and private universities will form part of the objectives of the centre.

The international training center, SEED Campus Europe, already operational in Villaverde in Madrid, is a specialized training for young high-performance professionals. This center will also provide on-going training for all our employees in Spain.
